Revitalizing Nomadic Wisdom in Mongolia

July 1, 2026

The New Nomad Institute (NNI), based in Mongolia, in a pioneer in weaving nomadic and indigenous wisdom into global climate, social, and technological solutions, revitalizing these traditions through research, education, and cultural exchange. Their key initiatives include:

  • Collaborative Research: NNI works hand-in-hand with herder communities, international experts, and practitioners to study and apply adaptive, environmentally conscious practices that have sustained nomadic societies for generations.
  • Transforming Education: Through initiatives like the Knowmadic Arts Lab, NNI bridges classroom learning with real-world experience, fostering ecological literacy and systems-thinking grounded in indigenous worldviews. Their vision is to scale this innovative model across and beyond Mongolia’s education system.
  • Global Exchange & Storytelling: With efforts like Steppe Together, NNI connects herders, artists, and researchers worldwide, amplifying nomadic perspectives in global conversations—especially as Mongolia prepares to host COP17 in 2026.
  • Shifting Narratives: NNI documents and shares the lived experiences and solutions of nomadic communities, helping to reframe narratives around climate resilience and sustainability.
